Marcel Couderc’s life and art remain a mystery for most of it. Painter, artist of all trades and drawing teacher at the Lycée Poeymirau in Meknès Morocco from 1932 to 1940, Marcel Couderc left us landscapes and views of his Maghreb region.
The city of Meknès is stamped by his monumental art work : a gigantic mural fresco in the movie theater Caméra’s staircase. In a pure Art Deco style of 1938, this fresco is still on spot and is in every Meknassis mind. This frieze is remarkable by many aspects : themes, colors, composition, all participating in the magic and swirling decor by Marcel Coudrec.
The same year, Coudrec won the Great Prize of the Academy of Fine Arts in Alger.
