Raymond Subes' fame as a great ironworker is undeniable. Along with Edgar Brandt, he is one of the greatest ironworkers of the 20th century. He was born on April 13, 1891 and was a student at the Boulle and Decorative Arts School in Paris. He began working in 1916 in a small studio that Emile Robert had opened in Enghien-les-Bains. In 1919 he entered the Borderel and Robert metal construction establishments and was project manager and then director of the ironwork workshop.
Very quickly he was recognized and exhibited his grills, stairs, balconies and furniture in many salons and large artistic events.
He collaborated with many architects and artists of his time. At the exhibition of decorative arts in 1925, he participated in many pavilions, especially for the salon of the Ruhlmann Collector's Hotel.
