RICCARDO SCARPA

Riccardo Scarpa is an Italian sculptor born in Venice in 1905. He studied drawing at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts where he was the student of De Loto and Carlo Lorenzetti. In 1928, he left Venice for Paris to devote himself to sculpture. His first works are mainly Africanist but the themes of his sculptures are also diverse: Animal art, naturalist or more or less stripped forms. He is a complete sculptor who uses various materials such as earth, stone, granite and bronze. In addition, he also makes furniture and decorative elements as well as lighting fixtures. In 1974, the Société des artistes français awarded him the gold medal for the collection of works he exhibited at the Salon des artistes français. Riccardo Scarpa is also known for his work as a medalist at the Monnaie de Paris.
