Founded in Marseille in 1873, the Lorenzy-Palanca perfumery has its origins in the entrepreneurial daring of two employees of the Mottet company, Thérèse Palanca and Joséphine Angelier. Together, they bought a business at 8 Rue Cannebière and created the company Palanca et Cie, specialising in ‘fine perfumery’. Located in the heart of the city's busiest thoroughfare, their boutique, soon known by the poetic name ‘À la Fontaine aux parfums’ (The Perfume Fountain), quickly established itself among the great houses of Marseille.

In 1878, the young François Lorenzi joined the company. His business acumen and industrial development skills transformed the workshop into a fully-fledged manufacturing company: wholesale, sustained advertising, expansion of the premises, then the creation of a factory and warehouses in the Joliette district. Renamed Lorenzy-Palanca, the company combined traditional craftsmanship with industrial modernity, employing up to 250 people and exporting its products far beyond Marseille.

The chandeliers were part of the décor of the shop at 8 rue Canebière, Marseille.
