EUGÈNE PRINTZ
DESK, c. 1930
Desk in Rio rosewood, sycamore maple, and brass.
The base is composed of two arched supports, each connected at its base by a gilt-brass stretcher, which structures the whole and lends an elegant lightness to the desk’s architectural design.
The upper section is articulated with two semi-circular side shelves extending from either side of the main top, providing refined auxiliary surfaces. At the center, a raised case incorporates two drawers to the front, whose proportions and clean lines highlight the refinement characteristic of Eugène Printz’s work.
Through the quality of its woods, the harmonious use of brass, and the precision of its proportions, this desk perfectly illustrates Printz’s approach to decorative desk design in the 1930s.
