CLÉMENT ROUSSEAU
SIDE TABLE, c. 1925
Low table in Macassar ebony, rosewood, shagreen and ivory.
It stands on two solid supports connected by a lower stretcher shelf decorated with colored shagreen in a lozenge pattern, highlighted with a fine inlaid ivory fillet. On the outer sides of each support, a rosewood marquetry panel, also outlined with an ivory stringing, forms an inverted pyramid geometric motif.
The upper structure unfolds in a Japanese-inspired architectural composition: the top, with its upturned ends, reprises the lozenge motif in shagreen and ivory.
