Albert Cheuret was a singular figure of the Art Deco movement, known for his poetic and modern reinterpretation of the animal world. Fascinated by movement and asymmetry, he infused his bronzes with a striking vitality, often capturing birds in mid-flight or perched in sculptural lamps and clocks. While his use of alabaster became a hallmark of his light fixtures, this rare hanging mobile stands out for its refined use of ivory and its unusual subject: bats. Unlike the birds that dominate his œuvre, bats appear only occasionally in his work, making this piece particularly intriguing. Suspended in delicate balance, the stylized creatures evoke both mystery and elegance, reflecting Cheuret’s ability to merge naturalistic inspiration with decorative innovation.
