In 1918 the gallery owner and director Léonce Rosenberg, director and owner of the gallery L'Effort Moderne, asked Joseph Csaky and other artists with whom he worked to make cubist sculptures and entered into an exclusive contract with a London gallery. In 1919 Joseph Csaky, who had not yet signed with the gallery, sent six drawings, and two sculptures, cubist, and later that year he returned a series of nine cubist drawings.
Some of the drawings were potentially preparatory work for some of the artist's cubist sculptures.
