JEAN DUNAND(1877-1942)CABINET-BAR, c. 1935Important built-in cabinet entirely lacquered in a deep red, the central shelf decorated with an eggshell inlay motif.
The lower section, framed by quarter-round columns, opens with two solid sliding doors. Their patinated bronze handles take the form of stylized serpents, coiled at each end. The door fittings are concealed by patinated bronze cabochons. The ensemble is surmounted by a curved entablature opening to three slightly projecting drawers fitted with semi-cylindrical pulls.
The upper section, with a concave back, incorporates a lighting system that can be reconnected and includes a red-lacquered shelf as well as a recessed glass shelf. It was originally designed to receive two glazed doors with chromed metal frames, which were never installed by the artist.
