PAUL JOUVE - ANIMAL PAINTER AND SCULPTOR

Galerie Marcilhac - Paris

November 6th 2008 to January 17th 2009

PAUL JOUVE EXHIBITION

Sculptor, painter, engraver and illustrator, Paul Jouve is undoubtedly the best representative of animal painters of the 20th century. Revealed at the 1900 World's Fair, his reputation never stopped to grow. His fame goes far beyond the borders today and the prices achieved at public auctions truly testify to the recognition of his work. Through his drawings, watercolors, paintings and sculptures, Jouve has built his renown on his ability to grasp and penetrate easily and deeply the character of each animal species. He illustrated The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling and A Pilgrimage to Angkor by Pierre Loti, among other books. He also collaborated with Jean Dunand,  Jean Goulden, and became friends with Gustave Miklos, Joseph Csaky, Pierre Legrain, Marcel Coard and Eileen Gray.
