Paul FRECHET (1908 - 1949)

Dressing table , Circa 1930

A Macassar ebony veneered vanity set on four tapered legs. The two front legs have ivory sabots.

The front of the dressing table opens onto five drawers, four of which are arranged in pairs on each side, decorated with ivory fillets and draw knobs and lined with velvet inside. The central drawer has an ivory ring. The ring is covered with shagreen which extends over the central part of the top and is also covered with ivory fillets which criss-cross to form a diamond pattern.

A round pivoting mirror on a doucine base rests on the top.

The use of Macassar ebony, the shape of the legs, the arrangement of the shagreen and the shape of the mirror are all directly influenced by the furniture of Jacques-Emile Ruhlmann, for whom Paul Fréchet was a designer.
