Presentation
On the occasion of its participation in TEFAF Maastricht, Galerie Marcilhac presents a scenography paying tribute to the art of the mondain dinner of the 1920s, a defining moment in the art of living and in the rise of the Art Deco era. This era marked a decisive turning point in the way people lived and entertained, establishing reception as a true art form at the crossroads of luxury, modernity, and theatrical presentation. In the wake of the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes, a new vision of the interior emerged, conceived as a complete décor. Furniture, lighting, textiles, and works of art engage in a carefully orchestrated dialogue, where every element contributes to the expression of taste, elegance, and refinement.Inspired by this spirit, our stand is centered around a monumental dining table and its serving cabinet by Jacques-Émile Ruhlmann, one of the leading figures of modern luxury and exceptional craftsmanship. This ensemble is enhanced by a six panels glass-work depicting a Nymph of Abundance by René Buthaud, evoking the period’s taste for allegory. A red lacquer cabinet-bar by Jean Dunand, with an eggshell-inlaid top, created by the artist for his own personal use, and an intimate corner featuring a white plaster fireplace by Léon-Ernest Drivier with Dantesque iconography, further enrich the scenography. Engraved glass flasks by Maurice Marinot, with their hypnotic textures, as well as the white glassware by René Lalique, of great purity of line, complete the composition. They dialogue with smoking occasional table, club armchairs, lacquer vases and paquebot-style pendant lights to recreate the atmosphere of an elegant reception.More than a presentation of exceptional works, our stand offers a sensitive evocation of an art of living, inviting visitors to imagine sparkling conversations, the clinking of glasses, the soft glow of lamps, and the silent yet commanding presence of the furniture. An atmosphere both mondain and intimate, where every detail contributes to the magic of reception. We would be delighted to welcome you to our stand at TEFAF Maastricht and to share with you this celebration of the elegance and creative spirit of the 1920s.Founded in 1969 by Félix Marcilhac Sr., Galerie Marcilhac is today an international reference in 20th-century French decorative arts. A recognized specialist in Art Nouveau and Art Deco, the gallery works closely with collectors, interior designers, and museums worldwide, offering rare, distinctive, and exceptional works. -
