Created around 1912, this tea service belongs to the early years of Jean Dunand’s career, when his work was still entirely devoted to dinanderie and to experimenting with metal patination and inlay. The ensemble already reveals the remarkable technical mastery that would define his work: the patinated maillechort is enriched with silver inlays, integrating the decoration directly into the material itself.
The service’s Oriental inspiration, evident in its forms, motifs and richly worked surfaces, reflects Dunand’s enduring interest in non-Western artistic traditions. Remarkably preserved with eight cups and saucers together with its various serving pieces, the ensemble offers a particularly complete expression of this early phase of Dunand’s work.
