OSSIP ZADKINE
TÊTE D'HOMME, 1927-1928
Black-patinated bronze, cast in 1987 by the Susse Foundry after the original wooden model.
This Head of a Man exemplifies Zadkine’s exploration of the simplification and geometrization of forms. The facial features, reduced to their essential lines, are deliberately emphasized or omitted, lending the sculpture a powerful expressiveness. The frontal composition, rigorous volumes, and stylized features give the work a hieratic and monumental presence, characteristic of Zadkine’s sculptural investigations in the late 1920s.
This bronze was cast in 1987 by the Susse Foundry for an exhibition held at the Fuji Kawa Gallery in Tokyo in 1988.
