DOMINIQUE
DESK, c. 1930
Double-pedestal desk veneered in Macassar ebony. The front is fitted with four drawers to each pedestal, while the reverse features two full-height doors opening onto shelving. Each drawer and door is fitted with silvered metal locks and escutcheons, retaining their original keys. The slightly projecting top, with its gently curved profile, is inspired by the silhouette of the torii gates of traditional Japanese architecture. Fine wooden stringing in a slightly lighter tone highlights the bases of the pedestals and the perimeter of the top, subtly illuminating the overall composition.
