From the 1950s onwards, Line Vautrin developed a highly distinctive vocabulary around Talosel, a synthetic resin that she heated, shaped, engraved and inset with fragments of coloured mirror. The technique allowed her to move beyond the traditional boundaries of jewellery and decorative objects, creating vibrant surfaces in which reflected light becomes an integral part of the work.
This egg is a particularly unusual expression of that vocabulary. Its elemental, symbolic form is entirely covered with an irregular mosaic of blue, grey and gold mirror fragments, embedded within a network of white Talosel. The fragmented reflections and deliberately irregular texture give the object an almost mineral quality, characteristic of Vautrin’s poetic approach to material and light.
