'FLEURS SOUS VERRE', 1926
A stylized portrait of a young bride, executed in gouache, pen, and ink on primed cardboard. Wearing a large hat adorned with purple flowers and foliage, the subject—with an innocent expression—is dressed in what appears to be a white, deeply low-cut gown.
Behind her lies a dense bouquet of flowers—roses, dahlias, and hydrangea blooms—in shades of red, pink, and green, preserved under a bridal globe. This traditional French ornament allowed the floral crown worn on the wedding day to be preserved under a glass dome as a precious and protected memento.
The drawing remains unfinished: the wedding dress, her hat, and the background have not been fully colored, revealing the preparatory sketch and the underlying ink lines in places.
