This occasional table brings together with remarkable richness several of the defining elements of Carlo Bugatti’s decorative language. The rigorous geometry of the octagonal top is echoed by an openwork structure conceived as a true architectural composition, in which arches, cut-out forms and contrasting woods create a complex interplay of rhythms and contrasts.
Across the top, stylized insects delineated by fine metal inlays belong to Bugatti’s distinctive ornamental vocabulary, in which observation of the natural world is combined with a decidedly graphic stylization. Parchment, pewter, bone, copper and passementerie are thus brought together in a composition where precious materials, naturalistic motifs and geometry form part of the same decorative universe.
